As March nears to a close I look back at the slight change we were going to achieve at The Lodge in the shape of a new bathroom suite and dressing area.
Like all good projects this has extended into the bedroom and is now in the lounge and kitchen too. After nearly 15 years at Darrynane and having completed the build of The Stables and the rebuild of Riverside cottage last year The Lodge bathroom looked tired. Could I really face another building project? ‘No’ I told myself. However when cleaning before Christmas I decided this was an area needing help. So with a short window in February we decided to get Andy in and upgrade the bathroom. Unfortunately once this was complete the bedroom starring at me from the bathroom looked tired and unhappy so we continued and plastered and repainted with new lighting too.As we had already changed our guests to another cottage we decided to continue into the lounge and kitchen. Only painting but it seems to have expanded. I am certain it will look good when it is finished and be well worth the effort.
Another exciting bit of new is that Wifi is coming to Darrynane Cottages. Until recently we in this part of the world have suffered with internet access. However, as Superfast Broadband came to St Breward at the end of last year and we ourselves went live in mid February and more importantly it works, we are now waiting to have it installed into the cottages. Hopefully by early April, BT and our local provider permitting, the cottages should be wifi friendly. We’ll keep you informed. However, we must state for city dwellers and those used to Superfast internet, ours is faster than we are used to but nothing compared to the speed experienced in the city.
During the last month we have enjoyed watching the sunrise on the Bodmin moor and then last week, one sunny morn, we realised that our walk was a daylight one. A sure sign Winter is on it way out, although watching the weather forecast with snow in many parts of the country and flurries up on the moor this week we will be forgiven for refuting it. But the golden daffodils are splendid swaying in the breeze.
The moorland ponies are getting fat and the highland cattle are back at Kerrow, all signs that new life is about to erupt onto the moor very shortly.
If anyone is considering a Spring time break and hasn’t booked yet we have cottages available during April and May so please give us a call or email and we’re sure we can offer you a good deal.
